Photos - B-515 submarine Hamburg
The B-515 (now renamed U-434), a Soviet Tango class submarine was bought by a Hamburg company and converted into a museum ship. All of its original equipment is still on board so visitors get a very good idea what serving on a Soviet submarine would be like. Comtourist was in town and took the change to look around on the former Spy submarine.
Almost all the original equipment to operate the submarine and some of the weapon systems are still in place. Stairs lead visitors down into front torpedo room were dummy dolls and real torpedoes are used to create a lively atmosphere. Small hedges separate the different compartments like the crew compartments, officers mess, diesel and electric engine rooms, galley and the control room. The tour through the submarine gives a real good impression what it would be like to live and work in the confined room of a submarine. The museum also includes a building with some photos of the conversion from War vessel to museum, welding tools, a torpedo en some other exhibits. A souvenir shop sells U-434 postcards and general submarine souvenirs.
