Photos - Polish Aviation museum Krakow
The Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow has a large collection of Soviet and other Warsaw Pact aircraft. Comtourist visited Krakow in the winters of 2004 and 2011 and visited the museum on both occasions. Comtourist photographed almost every aircraft of the museum and you will find them in this article.
The Krakow Aviation Museum is located on Rakowice, a military airfield that closed in 1963. The hangars are used as exposition buildings and aircraft are displayed on the old apron. A new main museum building was constructed in 2011 and many other improvements were conducted to the exhibition. The museum also features a cold war exposition in a dedicated building. The museum has a collection of more then 100 aircraft including military and civil airplanes and helicopters. Many of these aircraft are models build by Polish plants WKS and PZL. Some of the highlights are the Ilyushin Il-14S, Ilyushin Il-28U, Yakovlev Yak-23, PZL M-15 and an Avia B-33. The museum also has a large collection of aircraft engines including the Tumansky RD-9 turbojet engine. Comtourist recommends every aviation enthusiasts to visit the Polish Aviation museum when visiting Krakow. This beautiful Polish city is really worth a visit and has many other attractions like the ski resort Zakopane and the communist 1950s model town Nowa Huta. . A new main museum building was constructed in 2011 and many other improvements were conducted to the exhibition.
